Marty Stuart - Soul's Chapel

Marty Stuart's new album is simply stunning. Full of beauty and vulnerablilty, Marty and his stellar band cover some gospel classics that just tear my heart open. The arrangements are so sparse that it feels like you could hear a pin drop in the quieter moments. They tracked the vocals all live around one mic and man does it feel amazing.




Willie and Bobbie Nelson - How Great Thou Art

My friend Kerry hooked me up with this record. It's an old and out of print Willie album that was recorded with his sister Bobbie. Another sparse and beautiful recording. Just Willie and Bobbie singing old gospel songs they grew up on. Compelling. Less is more.

Daniel Tashien - demos

Daniel Tashien is the frontman for The Bees and he's a great songwriter and overall eccentric dude. I see him around town a lot either performing by himself, with The Bees or with David Mead/Josh Rouse and that whole crew of artists.

I really dig what he does and where he's coming from. He did a solo record with T-Bone Burnett a few years back but these are the only songs of his that I have. Cason gave them to me...I think he got them from Jason Lehning who works with Tashien.

There are six songs... my favorites are "Nothing Is Free" and "Lifestyle" which contains the lyric "it's a lifestyle baby, death row is the label that pays me"...an ode to Snoop.
