A new chapter.
We start recording in a little over 24 hours! I spent the day polishing lyrics and reworking chord changes. I'm trying to stretch myself as a songwriter and musician on this project and so far it seems to be working. We are going to do some things this week that I have never done before and just generally try to burn boxes and break down barriers. The sky's the limit and there are no rules other than making beautiful art that moves us.
In a conversation with a friend recently, I realized that for the first time in my career I am writing and recording an album with no agenda other than making the truest, deepest music that I can muster. I'm not concerned with what a label might think or what some radio or A&R guy would want me to do. It's refreshing and dare I say...real.
Feels like when I first started writing music in my bedroom back in high school on my four-track. I did it for the love of it. I'd sit there for hours with my black Yamaha acoustic guitar and try to be like The Beatles... recording myself singing backwards like John Lennon. Those were the days.
No safety net and no parachutes. I'm jumping! See you on the other side.
...plant your sorrows in the ground, all the broken pieces wrapped up in shadows of places and people you've known....
